Is This Thing On?
There are few things more deflating than finishing a 10 minute walkthrough, playing it back, and hearing... nothing. You spoke. The recorder didn't hear you. A handful of you have written in about exactly this, and honestly, it's happened to us too.
So we've made three small additions.
A Live Mic Meter
There's now a small level meter next to the recording controls. It reads the same audio that's actually being recorded... not just your mic in general... so if the bars move when you talk, your recording will have sound. Say something before you hit record and watch it respond. Once it hears you, the icon flips green.
It's a tiny thing, but it turns "I assume the mic works" into "I can see the mic works".
A Warning When It Doesn't
If we can't get hold of your microphone (permissions, another app hogging it, that sort of thing), we no longer carry on quietly. You'll get a clear alert over the preview before you record, so you can sort it out first... or at least make a silent recording on purpose rather than by surprise.
A Mute Button
And for the opposite case: sometimes you want the mic off. There's now a mute button in the recording controls, including in the floating controls window. It mutes only your microphone... any tab or system audio you're sharing keeps recording.
Short and sweet, as promised. May your recordings always have the sound you intended.
Until next time!
